Call for Applications
Editor
, Advances in the History of Rhetoric
2019–2021 Term

The American Society for the History of Rhetoric’s editorial search committee (Kathleen Lamp, Scott Stroud, Susan Jarratt, and Ekaterina Haskins) invites applications for the next editor of Advances in the History of Rhetoric. Published and indexed by Taylor and Frances, Advances is an important outlet for scholarship on all historical aspects of rhetoric, in all historical periods, and with reference to all intellectual, national, and cultural communities. It currently publishes three issues per volume, with one of those issues being reserved for a special issue created in cooperation with a guest editor.

The editor will be appointed to a three-year, renewable term (volumes 22.1–24.3; 2019–21). The editor will be responsible for assembling and appointing a review board, supervising the manuscript review process, and preparing manuscripts for production. The new editor’s first deadline will be December 2018. The editor also serves as an officer of the American Society for the History of Rhetoric and a member of ASHR’s Steering Committee.

Applicants should be of the associate rank or higher. Please forward applications to Scott Stroud, Chair of the Publications Committee, at sstroud@austin.utexas.edu. Applications should include a curriculum vita and cover letter that speaks to the applicant’s qualifications and editorial vision, and to the potential for institutional support.  Deadline for applications: September 15, 2017.

The search committee will recommend an editor-elect in November 2017.  The editor-elect will begin soliciting and reviewing manuscript submissions for the 2019 volume in January 2018. The new editor should expect to work through a transition period with current AHR editor Arthur Walzer.
